John Romano's comments in the
Muscular Development December issue
November 3, 2006

  • I must say that I have been pretty busy lately with various projects, works, and all, so I have been lacking in news and views, and various stores. So I will try to add some various stories that I see which are of interest, whether or not they are covered in the magazines or not. Hence, after reading MD's December 2006 issue, here are some comments, as MD, especially John Romano mentions Getbig a number of times.

I always thought it was interesting that the promoters of the Olympia denied Muscular Development press passes over a difference of opinion. True, various forms of bashing is not cool, but denying a press pass was their right. Never the less, it didn't stop MD from covering the Olympia. Steve Blechman, publisher and editor-in-chief, noted that Dave Palumbo, who works for MD, got into the press pit to cover prejudging anyways, and bought a half dozen IP tickets, and with the help of zoom lens, there wasn't any difference. So was it worth putting out there the denial of the press passes, or did it serve a messege. I think it did trigger some thought for the future for many. A press pass is not a right. It is a privilege.

John Romano always has some interesting words to say. To say the least, he can piss people off, but he is quite the entertainer. The picture in his column sports a hat, but the man has no hair. And John tells it like it is, in his opinion of course. So what are the outlandish comments this time…

    1. The press conference was so painful to watch I'd rather have stood in a parking lot and watched a shopping cart put a ding in my car door
    2. The next time they have a hottie like that emceeing the press conference, make sure she's at least topless.
    3. The contest was only judges on Friday night and then it was a done deal.
    4. Before anyone goes and thinks Jay beat Ronnie, think again. Ronnie beat Ronnie Coleman. Team Ronnie fucked up.
    5. The emcee duo of the company boys Swan Ray and Bob Chick was once again an opportunity for Chick to bail out his co-host.

Again, must thank John Romano for writing that he chose Getbig.com's message boards as his place to make his arrival in cyberspace. John likes it hardcore and he likes it real. He actually thought there would be more haters on there, but so few showed up.

I need to give mad props to John for recognizing the Mr. Getbig contest, and to actually talk about Getbig.com in the magazine. Very cool. It was, the very first online bodybuilding contest, and to be honest, it was started by the fans of bodybuilding on the Getbig boards, not by myself at all. We had no idea where it would go, and whether it would take off, or just be another thread on the boards. Well, it took off, and for months, people got into it, and it was serious. And the best part of that it inspired people to lose weight and get in shape, which was great to see.
